Business verification confirms your organisation is a legitimate, registered business. It is what allows you to use WhatsApp messaging fully, including higher messaging limits.
Note: Business verification is different from the paid "Meta Verified" subscription (the blue badge). You do not need to buy Meta Verified.
Before you start
You must have full control of the Business Portfolio. This is the highest permission level. If you can't open the Security Centre, you may not have it. Ask the portfolio owner to give you full control or to complete the steps themselves.
Only submit accurate information. If you provide false or misleading details, Meta can refuse verification, remove verified status or take action on the account.
Step 1: Check whether your Business Portfolio is already verified
Many organisations already have a verified Business Portfolio, particularly if they've used Meta Business Suite before (e.g. for Facebook/Instagram ads or pages). Check this first, as it may mean no further action is needed.
Go to Meta Business Suite and log in
Go to Settings, then Business info
Find the Business verification status section
What you see decides your next step:
What you see | What to do |
Verified | You're ready. Go straight to the Twilio Onboarding Guide. You do not need to create a Meta app. |
Start verification button available | Complete Step 2. |
Ineligible for verification or the button is greyed out | Meta doesn't currently require your portfolio to verify. Go to Step 3. |
Step 2: Verify your business
Go to the Security Centre in Meta Business Suite and click Start verification
Enter your business details: legal business name, address, phone number and website. These must exactly match your legal business entity. Your website must load and use HTTPS (the address starts with https://)
Confirm your business details. If Meta finds a matching record, select it. If not, choose My business isn't listed or None of these match. You may then be asked to upload official documents, such as a business licence or articles of incorporation
Choose a method to confirm your connection to the business: email, phone, text message, WhatsApp message, or domain verification (adding a meta tag or DNS record to your website)
Confirm your connection, then click Done. You'll see a message confirming your submission was received
What happens next: Meta's decision can take up to 14 business days, and you'll be notified when the review is complete. If your status shows Verified, no further action is needed. If your submission is rejected, see Meta's guidance on what to do if your verification is rejected.
If you edit your business details later, you'll need to complete verification again.
Meta's full instructions: How to verify your business in Meta Business Suite
Once your status shows Verified, go to the Twilio Onboarding Guide.
Step 3: If "Start verification" is unavailable
Verification is only needed for certain Meta products and features. If you see "Ineligible for verification", Meta doesn't currently need your portfolio to verify. To use WhatsApp messaging fully, you can signal that your business needs verification by doing one of the following.
Option 1: Link a WhatsApp Business Account
Go to Twilio Onboarding and follow the steps to register your sender
Return to the Security Centre and check whether Start verification is now available
Option 2: Create a placeholder app in Meta for Developers
Log in to the Meta for Developers portal
Create a new app and connect it to your Business Portfolio
Go to App Settings, then Basic
Find the Verification section and click Start Verification. This takes you to your Security Centre with the button enabled
You don't need to finish app review. Starting the request is usually enough to trigger the button
Then complete Step 2. If the button is still unavailable, or your WhatsApp Business Account has been restricted by Meta, contact our support team.
