Twilio Onboarding Process (End-to-End Guide)

This guide outlines the full onboarding process for setting up your Twilio account and enabling WhatsApp messaging as part of your campaign setup. Please follow each step carefully. If you need support at any stage, our team will be happy to assist.

Overview of the Process

The onboarding process consists of the following steps:

  1. Create a Twilio Trial account

  2. Invite our team as administrators

  3. Complete Facebook Business Verification (completed by you)

  4. Account upgrade and billing setup (handled by us)

  5. Platform configuration and setup (handled by us)

  6. WhatsApp onboarding (completed by you)

  7. Final checks and go-live


Part 1: Create Your Twilio Trial Account

To get started, you’ll need to create a free Twilio trial account.

How to sign up

  1. Go to the Twilio website

  2. Click Start for Free

  3. Enter your details (name, email, and password)

  4. Verify your email address

  5. Add and verify your phone number (this is required by Twilio)

  6. Complete any additional onboarding prompts shown on screen

Once completed, you will have access to your Twilio Console (dashboard).

Part 2: Invite Us as Administrators

Please create your Account first after you login for the first time and you’ll need to grant us administrator access so we can complete the setup on your behalf.


How to create your account

  1. Log in to your Twilio Console

  2. Click 'Create New Account'

  3. Provide your account details and choose 'Twilio' for the account it will be used for

  4. Click 'Continue' and choose your billing country and hit 'Create new account' make to continue with 'Trial' afterwards

How to invite an admin user

  1. Log in to your Twilio Console

  2. Navigate to Admin set up

  3. Go to 'Manage Users'

  4. Click Invite User

  5. Select the previous account that you have created

  6. Assign the role for the account: Administrator and Billing Manager

  7. Enter the email address for our team: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], and [email protected]

  8. Send the invitation

Once invited, please let us know so we can accept and proceed with the next steps.

Part 3: Complete Facebook Business Verification (completed by you)

Business verification is a crucial step to confirm your organization is eligible to use WhatsApp for communication. Follow the linked instructions to submit your Facebook account for verification.

Part 4: Account Upgrade & Billing Setup (Handled by Us)

After receiving access:

  • We will upgrade your Twilio account from trial to a full account

  • We will configure the billing using our payment method

No action is required from your side for this step.

Part 5: Account Setup & Configuration (Handled by Us)

We will then proceed with the standard onboarding setup, including:

  • Purchasing a Twilio number

  • Configuring messaging services

  • Setting up compliance and required information

  • Preparing your account for WhatsApp use

We’ll keep you updated once this stage is complete.

Part 6: Complete WhatsApp Onboarding (Completed by you)

Once the initial setup is ready, you will be required to complete the WhatsApp onboarding process.

This typically includes:

  • Verifying your business details

  • Connecting your WhatsApp Business profile

  • Approving messaging use cases/templates

WhatsApp Sender Registration (via Twilio)

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Log in to your Twilio account

  • Navigate to Messaging → Senders → WhatsApp Senders

2. Create a New Sender

  • Click the “Create new sender” button (top‑right corner)

3. Select a Phone Number

  • Choose a Twilio mobile number from the available list ⚠️ Note: You may use your own phone number but be aware that non‑Twilio numbers may only work for WhatsApp and not for SMS. To maximize functionality (SMS + WhatsApp), always select a Twilio mobile number.

  • Click Continue

💡 Tip: If you manage multiple sub‑accounts or colleges, keep a record of which number is assigned to each sender.

4. Link Your WhatsApp Business Account

  • In the “Link WhatsApp Business Account with your number” section:

    • Copy the displayed phone number found on 2. Copy the phone number you want to register.


    • Click “Continue with Facebook” (opens a Meta window)


5. Complete Meta (Facebook) Setup

  • In the pop‑up window:

    • Select your existing Business Portfolio, or create a new one

    • Create or select your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA)

    • Enter the required business details

    • Add the phone number you copied earlier

6. Verify the Phone Number

  • Return to the WhatsApp Senders page in Twilio

  • Copy the verification code

  • Paste it into the Meta pop‑up window when prompted

7. Finalize Setup

  • Click Confirm, then Continue to Feature Setup

  • Refresh your Twilio page

8. Confirm Sender Status

  • The sender should now appear as “Online”

Part 7: Final Setup & Go Live

After WhatsApp onboarding is complete:

  • We will finalise the configuration

  • Perform final checks

  • Confirm everything is ready

At this point, your account will be fully set up and ready to go live 🎉
