As WhatsApp is increasingly becoming the go-to communication tool, the team at Meta have recently enforced a daily messaging limit to control spam.

Messaging limits start at 1k

Messaging limits determine the maximum number of unique contacts you can send messages to in a rolling 24-hour period. These limits do not apply to replies you receive from contacts. Unique contacts are determined as unique mobile numbers.

Your account starts with 1K unique contacts you can message in a rolling 24-hour period. We highly recommend progressing to the next tier of 10k unique contact messaging as early as possible.

Messaging limits are increased or decreased by the WhatsApp team and Meta and at Purlos we have no control over this.

Increasing Your Limit

Each time you send a WhatsApp message to a unique contact, the Meta algorithm will determine if the limit should be increased. To be eligible for an increase in daily limit you will need to:

  • have had your WhatsApp number activated (for over 48 hours)

  • Sent messages to at least 500 unique contacts in the last 7 days

  • Maintain your WhatsApp number's quality rating to Medium or High

If you meet all conditions, the WhatsApp team will increase your messaging limit to 10,000 unique contacts.

If these conditions are continuously met, your rate limit can increase to 100k unique contacts.

Maintaining High Quality

  • Make sure messages follow the WhatsApp Business Policy and Commerce Policy.

  • Only send messages to users who have opted into receiving messages from your business.

  • Make the messages highly personalised and useful to users. Avoid sending open-ended welcome or introductory messages.

  • Be mindful of messaging frequency; avoid sending students too many messages a day. Be thoughtful of informational messages, optimising for content and length.
